This is a stunning pair of Gogia spiralis from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. These primitive echinoderms used to be known as eocrinoids, but have now been re-classified as cystoids. These large cystoids are complete and exhibit wonderful detail. The elongate, multi-plated, sac-like holdfasts are intact and very distinct. Each cystoid has a large-plated, nodose calyx that is quite evident, and twisted, spiraled arms that are beautifully showcased in a splayed position. The fossils have excellent color and contrast and are nicely presented on the squared plate of shale. This is a very collectible example of these very displayable echinoderms.
