Here is an excellent fossil crab from Italy. This is Harpactocarcinus punctulatus from the Eocene Layers of Monte Baldo. This crab is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits terrific detail. The fossil has been prepared in high relief so that the crab sits high above the matrix. Both pincers have been prepared in a free-standing manner. The carapace and both large claws are beautifully displayed - even the underneath side of the carapace is easily seen. The fossil has fine color and contrast and is wonderfully perched on the natural block of matrix. This is an exquisite fossil suitable for display in anyone's collection.
