This is an extremely nice fossil leaf. It is a Celtis mccoshii, a Hackberry leaf, from the Eocene of Utah. This lanceolate leaf is well preserved and exhibits fantastic detail. The serrated margins of the leaf are clearly defined, and the venation is wonderfully displayed. A long, thin petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil plant has outstanding color and contrast and is well showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a beautiful Hackberry leaf from the Green River Formation.
