This is an ultra-rare specimen of a multi-armed starfish from the famous Mississippian beds near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This site is well-known for the wonderful crinoids that are sometimes found. However, starfish from this location are highly uncommon, and a Medusa starfish of this quality is extremely rare. The large central disk, or body, of the starfish is easily seen, and thirteen arms are easily seen. The plate structure of this unusual echinoderm is quite unique. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a terrific example of this rarely-seen multi-armed starfish from the Edwardsville Formation
