Here is a very nice plate of fossil fish. There are two fine examples of Knightia eocaena on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are easily seen. The eye sockets are quite distinct and even the backbones are preserved. The fish have great brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well displayed on the large, semi-rounded plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of two fossil herring from the Eocene.
