Here is a very unusual specimen of a fossil fish. This is a fine Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This distinct fish exhibits nice detail. The bone structure and fins are superb. The eye socket is easily seen. The fish has great color and excellent contrast and is well showcased on a large plate of shale. And there is even a fish coprolite (fossil poop) above the back of the fish! This is a stunning specimen of a fossil herring and excrement from the Eocene.
