Here is an excellent specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga brachyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of this type of fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is well defined, and the bone structure is superb. The large fish has excellent orangish-brown color that contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the squared-off plate of shale. This is a very cool specimen of this highly uncommon fish.
