This is a very nice specimen of Mioplosus labracoides from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This unusual perch-like fish exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is quite evident - the backbone is very nicely displayed, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The distinct color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The large fish (over nine inches long!) is well showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine, large predatory fish from the Eocene.
