This is a beautiful spiny trilobite. It is a complete Psychopyge elegans from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This type of trilobite has a LONG, pointed snout, long genal spines, long tailspines, and about 40 vertical spines protruding upward from the entire length of the exoskeleton. This specimen displays all of these features beautifully. The snout, genal spines, and tailspines are all intact and well preserved. The occipital ''horn'' and the entire array of 40 back spines are present and were prepared fully free-standing. Both compound eyes are nearly perfect and display the individual facets beautifully (see photo). And the strange feature of this bug is that the right side pleural spines and tailspines seem to have been broken right at the time of fossilization - cool! This is a fabulous example of this long-snouted, long-spined trilobite from Morocco.
