Here is a large unidentified leaf from the Eocene of Utah. This unusual leaf has crenate margins and a slightly attenuate apex. The venation is beautifully displayed - even the tertiary venation is easily seen. A long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts nicely with the tannish matrix. It is extremely well centered on the large block of shale. There are also several insects, including a beetle, preserved on the plate. This is an excellent example of an extremely uncommon leaf from the Green River Shale.
