Here is a tiny specimen of an unusual fossil fish. This is juvenile Priscacara hypsacantha from the Green River Formation of Utah. Only a handful of these baby fish are found each year. This fish is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The fish has great orangish-brown color and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The itty-bitty fossil is well centered on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a rare juvenile specimen of this uncommon fish from the Eocene.
