These are extremely rare and enigmatic fossils. This is a beautiful pair of Cyclomedusa davidi from the White Sea region of Russia. UC Berkley says of this ancient creature:

''Cyclomedusa is probably the most widespread Vendian fossil. It also has one of the largest size ranges, ranging from a few millimeters to about a meter in diameter. Formerly thought to represent a planktonic (floating) jellyfish of some sort, Cyclomedusa is now considered by some to have been a benthic (bottom-dwelling) polyp, somewhat like a sea anemone. It reproduced by division in two or by budding.''

Both of these specimens display the classic Cyclomedusa features beautifully - somewhat round with ruffled edges and concentric circles radiating from the center. The detail of these fossils is quite striking and simply amazing, for a polyp! The distinct fossils are well showcased on a block of very fine-grained sandstone. This is a museum quality multiple example of this strange, enigmatic Precambrian organism.
