This is a nice fossil starfish from the Ordovician of Canada. There is a very good example of Stenaster obtusus on the slab. Stenaster starfish are commonly called ''button stars'', as they are usually small and compact. The starfish has parts of all five arms present (highly unusual) and exhibits superb detail. The plate structure is beautifully defined - just look at the photo. This fossil echinoderm has very good color and contrast and is well presented on the square plate of limestone. This is a wonderful example of true fossil starfish from the Ordovician Period.
