This is a very displayable example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the entire fish is extremely well preserved! The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully displayed in the "flapping tail" pose - quite striking! This is a very large specimen (OVER 12 inches long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
