Here is an extremely rare cystoid. This is Glyptocystella sp. from the Ordovician of Canada. This type has highly striated plates and huge pore-rhombs. This primitive echinoderm is very inflated and exhibits great detail. The highly ornamented plates of the theca are beautifully displayed. One of the very large pore-rhombs is nicely exhibited. An extremely long stem is still attached. The cystoid is well positioned on a large (4.7" X 5.2") plate of limestone. This is a very detailed specimen of this highly unusual cystoid.
