Here is one of the most aesthetic fossil leaves that we have seen. This is Zelkova nervosa (Keaki Tree) from the Eocene of Colorado. This lance-shaped leaf has very dentate (almost serrated) margins and the petiole is still tightly attached. The venation of this leaf is wonderfully displayed. Nothing has been done to enhance this leaf - the awesome color is totally natural. It curves gracefully on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a beautiful Zelkova leaf from the Green River Shale of Colorado.
