Here is an excellent plate of Pentremites rusticus from the Pennsylvanian of Oklahoma. Pennsylvanian blastoids are quite uncommon, and these echinoderms are very unique. This species is unusual in that the plates of the thecae are highly ornamented. This is the only species of Pentremites that we have seen that have these ornate plates. The blastoids are totally inflated and exhibit great detail. The wide ambulacra are easily seen, and the spiracles at the top of the blastoids are quite evident. Even the ''food grooves'' of the ambulacra are clearly defined. The ornamentation of the plates is beautifully displayed. And the blastoids display well on the large block of limestone. This is a wonderful example of these extremely interesting blastoids.
