Very Nice Double Holocystites from Indiana

This is a very nice double specimen of Holocystites scutellatus. These primitive cystoids are from the Silurian of Indiana. They are both extremely inflated and well preserved. These distinct echinoderms exhibit very good plate structure - the highly pustulose plates are all intact. Both specimens have their short stems intact - this is highly unusual, as this process is usually broken off. The cream-colored cystoids contrast nicely with the green-grey matrix. The fossils are very well centered on the semi-oval plate of limestone. This is a very fine double specimen of Holocystites scutellatus from the Osgood Formation.
