Here is a special specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is a rare Amphiplaga bracyptera and Knightia eocaena plate from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of Amphiplagas are found each year. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is clearly defined, and the bone structure is superb. The fins are intact, and the tail is quite detailed. The fish has excellent orangish-brown color and contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The smaller Knightia is also extremely detailed. The fossils are well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a unique association specimen of this highly uncommon fossil fish.
