Here is a very displayable example of Mimosites coloradensis from the Green River Formation of Utah. Mimosites leaves are not uncommon from this site - but a branch with this many leaves still attached is extremely rare. There are over twenty oblong leaves attached to this branch! The venation of the leaves is easily seen and the entire margins of the leaves are clearly defined. The plant fossil has great color and contrasts nicely with the matrix. The branch of leaves is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of shale. This is an outstanding specimen of Mimosites coloradensis from the Eocene.
