This is an excellent crustacean fossil from Lebanon. It is a plate with a large Paraclythia longimanus (Lobster) preserved. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This lobster is a rare type - not the more common type, Homarus. It is well preserved and exhibits great detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the crustacean are clearly defined. The LONG pincers are beautifully displayed, and even the mandibles of the beast can be seen. The fossil has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site) and is nicely spaced on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very displayable example of this rare crustacean from the Middle East.
