Here is an interesting plate of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different types of fish on the plate. On the left of the slab is a nice example of Diplomystus dentatus. This fossil herring has great bone structure preserved. Three wonderfully detailed specimens of Knightia eocaena are also preserved on the plate. This fish have fine bone structure, and the fins and tails are beautifully displayed. All of the dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well showcased on the large plate of shale that has beautiful natural banding on the rock. This is a very displayable example of four fossil fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
