Here is a pair of rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. These are Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. The left fish is fabulous - the fish on the right is incomplete. The better specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is clearly defined, and the bone structure is superb. The fins are intact, and the tail is quite detailed. The fish have excellent orangish-brown color and contrast beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is a very nice double specimen of this highly uncommon fish.
