This is a wonderful vertebrate trace fossil. These are fossil bird tracks from the Green River Formation. There are three very distinct tracks on the plate. The tracks were probably made by a large sandpiper-type bird. It is very easy to understand how a bird made tracks in the mud along the shoreline of the lake - the mud later turned to stone and the bird tracks were preserved. It is unusual to have tracks this distinct preserved on a plate. This is a rare multiple plate of fossil bird tracks from Utah.
