Here is a very distinct example of a fossil lobster. This is Palaeastacus fuciformis from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This formation is well known for the fine preservation of the fossils that are occasionally found there. This specimen is very well preserved and exhibits the head, carapace, and both large claws - even some of the legs and the segmented antennae are easily seen. The fossil arthropod has gorgeous, natural coloration and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well centered on the squared plate of lithographic limestone. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unusual crustacean from the Jurassic of Germany.
