Very Impressive Natural Split Pair Ammonite Double

This is a fabulous multiple ammonite fossil. It is a cluster of Hoploscaphites nicolleti from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. There are two large ammonites in this concretion, and it is also a split pair! This type of ammonite has numerous ribs that are coarse in the beginning and becoming very fine near the living chamber. The keel is flat and narrow with a row of prominent nodes on both sides. Both of these ammonites are very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibit fine detail, and BOTH cephalopods have the full living chambers present, which is quite unusual. The brown iridescent ammolite nacre is easily seen. The striking ammonites display beautifully in the large, natural block of concretionary matrix - again, the large negative impression (counterpart) is present, which is extremely unusual! This is a very displayable and highly collectible multiple example of Hoploscaphites from the Badlands of South Dakota.
