This is a classic fossil crinoid. It is a large Encrinus from Germany. This specimen is Triassic in age, which is very unusual- most of Europe experienced desert conditions during the Triassic. This type of crinoid is an Inadunate crinoid and has many stout, biserial arms. This specimen has a complete crown and a very long stem. The pinnulated arms are slightly splayed and are very well preserved. The crinoid is well positioned on a large, squared plate of limestone that also contains other crinoid parts. This is a very distinct example of this unusual European crinoid.
