Killer Caryocrinites Cystoid with Long Arms and Stem

This is a textbook fossil cystoid. It is a fabulous example of Caryocrinites ornatus from the Rochester Shale of New York. This type of primitive echinoderm has a somewhat ovate cup comprised of large, highly ornamented plates - the plate structure of this cystoid is just awesome! A LONG stem is still intact and tightly attached to the calyx. And there are even TEN ARMS preserved, displaying great detail and even the pinniules! One of the arms is almost four inches long - they almost never get that long! The HUGE echinoderm (OVER EIGHT INCHES LONG!) has great natural color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the large, semi-rectangular block of shale. This is an extremely collectible specimen of a Caryocrinites ornatus cystoid from the Rochester Shale of New York - simply amazing!
