This is a very large specimen of Quercus simulata from the Miocene of Oregon. The leaf exhibits fine detail - the dentate margins are well defined, and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. Some small sections of the leaf have been bug-eaten, which is highly unusual. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well centered on the squared block of matrix. This is a very pretty specimen of a fossil oak leaf from the Miocene.
