Here is an excellent fossil insect from the Eocene of Utah. This is a large Snout Beetle (Coleoptera) from the Green River Formation. This beetle exhbits superb detail - the head, body, legs, and especially the large snout of the insect are quite distinct. The wing coverings display extremely fine reticulation. The dark color of the insect contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The specimen is well presented in profile on the natural plate of shale. This is a very nice example of a Snout Beetle from the Green River Formation.
