Specimen XIAMA705

Here is a fabulous fossil nautiloid. This is a HUGE Cymatoceras saholaons from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This distinct nautiloid has been sliced in half, and both halves have been highly polished. The primitive, straight-line sutures define this fossil as a rare nautiloid rather than an ammonite. The coiling pattern of the nautiloid is easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite distinct - some are even hollow! And the central siphuncle is even prominently displayed, which is extremely unusual. The colorful mineral replacement makes for a beautiful display. This is a very displayable and extremely collectible specimen of a true fossil nautiloid from the Cretaceous.
