Here is a very unusual leaf - we have never seen another leaf quite like this. This large, unidentified leaf is from the Eocene of Utah. This leaf has weak venation, a rounded base, and somewhat dentate margins. The aristate tip of the leaf is wonderfully intact and the long petiole is exquisitely displayed. This naturally dark fossil contrasts nicely with the khaki-colored matrix. It is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a great example of an extremely uncommon fossil leaf from the Green River Shale.
