This is an excellent example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen and even some of the scale pattern is preserved! The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
