This is a very nice plate of two fossil fish swimming in different directions. These are Knightia humilis from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are well articulated and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is quite evident, the eye sockets are easily seen, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The naturally brown fish contrast beautifully with the golden-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the large, unbroken plate of shale. This is a very attractive plate of fossil herring from the Eocene Fossil Lake deposits.
