Here is a beautiful ammonite from an unusual location. This is Flexoptychites flexuosus from the Triassic of Greece. Triassic cephalopods are not common in the fossil record - there are only a few places in the world where they are found. This ammonite has been polished to reveal the striking color and wonderful feather-like suture pattern. Polished specimens are prized - most ammonites from this locality do not take a polish. This large specimen is quite 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. There is also a black, unpolished Cladiscites cf. ungeri ammonite preserved on the matrix base. This is a very displayable specimen of a Triassic ammonite from Greece. (Note: The white reflection on the ammonite is from the photo, and not on the actual specimen.)
