Location:  Ulianovsk, Russia

Specimen SSS945

This is a spectacular ammonite fossil. It is a HUGE Speetoniceras versicolor from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has strong ribs that bifurcate near the rounded keel. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The ribbing pattern of the mollusk is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are intact and very easily seen. The colorful nacreous and pyritized shell of the ammonite is still intactand displays beautifully. The monster ammonite (well over a foot across!) is fully free of matrix and displays well on both sides - it is hard to find an ammonite this large that looks great from either side.. This is a fantastic display specimen of a large Cretaceous ammonite that could easily be the centerpiece of any ammonite collection.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
