This is a textbook fossil sponge. It is an unidentified sponge from the famous Crawforsville crinoid locality. This site is known worldwide for its crinoid fossils - sponges are rarely unearthed. This specimen has fantastic detail - the ''mesh netting'' outer structure is superbly preserved. The classic tubular shape of the sponge is also wonderfully intact. This is a top quality fossil sponge from the Mississippian of Indiana.
