Location:  Kemmerer, Wyoming
Size: Dragonfly is 2.8 inches across the wings

Specimen SSGRD1

This is an extremely rare fossil. It is a large Dragonfly from the Eocene of Wyoming. This specimen was found at the site that is well known for fossil fish - fossils other than fish are rare and very sought-after. Occasionally, a wing or small insect is found, but a complete Dragonfly with all four wings preserved is almost unheard of! The detail of the wings is amazing - the venation is easily seen. The fossil displays beautifully on the large, squared plate of oilshale. And remember, this Dragonfly is from Wyoming  - thousands of fossil fish are found before something this special is unearthed. This is a truly rare fossil Dragonfly from the ''Fish Layers'' of Wyoming.
