Here is a fantastic crinoid that we obtained from an old collection years ago. This is Taxocrinus sturtzii from the famous Devonian slate of Bundenbach, Germany. As many people know, the quarries in this area are now closed. The only way to obtain fossils from this classic site is through the dispersal of old collections. This beautiful flexible crinoid is "as good as it gets". The branching arms are complete to the tips, and the spines on the arms are even intact. An EXTREMELY LONG stem (over nine inches!) is tightly attached to the crinoid. The distinct segmentation of the stem is also easily seen. The fossil has been preserved by iron pyrite, or "fool's gold" - the "golden" crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the dark matrix. The sea lily is wonderfully showcased on the HUGE (11.3" X 11.5") plate of roofing slate. This is a breathtaking example of this unusual flexible crinoid from a site that is no longer being collected. (Original German label is included.)
