Here is a great specimen of an unusual predatory fish. This is Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. Only a handful of these rare ''mooneye'' fish are found each year, and this is a HUGE one - nine inches long! The fish is wonderfully articulated and exhibits very good detail. The bone structure is plainly seen and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The eye socket is quite evident and MANY large teeth are easily seen in the open mouth - wow! The fish has fine color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an extremely collectible example of this highly uncommon fish from the Eocene.
