Hollardops as Art - Entire Tail Prepared Free-Standing

Location:  Morocco
Size: Trilobite is over 2 inches long

Specimen SS129

This is a mind-blowing trilobite fossil. It is a beautifully sculpted specimen of Hollardops mesocristata from the Devonian of Morocco. This fine specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. The trilobite is very 3-D and extremely inflated. The wonderfully articulated bug is superbly preserved and exhibits excellent detail. The crescent-shaped compound eyes are beautifully displayed. The black trilobite contrasts extremely well with the light-colored, sculpted limestone. But wait, there's more! The pygidium (tail) of this critter has been prepared from BOTH SIDES - the back side of the tail has been fully hollowed out! The tail only has the thin SHELL intact - there is no rock to obscure its features! In fact, the skin is so thin, you can actually see light through the tail! The delicate preparation needed to preform this miracle is simply incredible - how many prep artists could pull this off? This is easily one of the most amazing, one-of-a-kind examples of Hollardops we have ever prepared.
