This is an amazing plate of unusual plant fossils. There is an Astronium truncatum Flower and a rare Legume on this plate of Green River Shale. Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a stunning specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - all five of the petals are beautifully displayed. There is also a very unusual Legume (fruiting body) preserved on the plate. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well positioned on the large, natural plate of shale. This is an incredible fossil flower fossilized right next to an extinct Legume.
