This is a very cute fossil crab. It is an unidentified crab from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. This crab was alive at the same time the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Due to political unrest, fossils from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This location is well-known for fossil shrimp and fish, but crabs are relatively uncommon. This specimen has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site) and the detail is quite nice. The crab is wonderfully presented on the squared plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a fine example of a fossil crab from the Middle East.
