This is a very nice double specimen of Holocystites scutellatus. These cystoids are from the Silurian of Indiana. They are both extremely inflated and well preserved. These primitive echinoderms exhibit good plate structure. The highly pustulose plates are all intact. Both specimens display the short, complete stem. This is highly unusual, as this process is usually broken off. The cream-colored cystoids contrast nicely with the gray matrix. They are very well centered on the rounded plate of limestone. This is a very fine specimen of Holocystites scutellatus from the Osgood Formation.
