Here is a fabulous specimen of Parasangulocrinus zaeformis from the famous Devonian slate of Germany. The quarries in this area produced slate for the roofing industry for many years. Now the quarries are closed, and the only way to obtain the rare fossils from this site is through the dispersal of old collections. This piece was recently obtained from an old German collection. This type of crinoid is characterized by a very small cup, thin branching arms, and a large anal sac - this specimen exhibits these features in fine fashion. The multi-plated anal sac is beautifully displayed between the arms. An extremely long stem still intact and tightly attached to the crown. The crinoid is nicely positioned on the large, rectangular plate of roofing slate. This is a very detailed and displayable crinoid from a world-famous fossil locality.
