Here is a nice specimen of an unusual fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is superb and the fins are nicely displayed - the large dorsal fin is quite "upright" and fully extended. The fish has good orangish-brown color and contrasts extremely well with the light-colored shale. The fossil is nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very good specimen of this rare fish.
