Here is a very rare fossil. This is a fossil Bird Wing, preserved in tar from the Pleistocene ''La Brea Tar Pits'' of California. This location is famous for the Saber-Toothed Tiger fossils found there, and has been closed to collecting for many years. The partial wing is very well preserved in a 3-dimensional fashion with many bones intact and well articulated. There is also an excellent Cybister Beetle fossilized on the plate - the reticulation of the wing covers is easily seen. The fossils have excellent detail displayed and contrast strikingly with the dull surface of the tar matrix. This is a very unique vertebrate fossil from one of the most famous fossil sites in the world.
