Here is a fossil you almost certainly don't have in your collection. It is a textbook Fossil Feather from the Santana Formation of Brazil. The Santana Formation is Cretaceous in age, making this feather one of the oldest fossil feathers in the world. In fact, this specimen could be from a FEATHERED DINOSAUR, now that it is proven that some dinosaurs had feathery plumage. The feather has excellent structure and exquisite detail. The many individual barbs are easily seen. The feather is almost perfectly centered on the 3" X 5" matrix plate. This specimen is as definitive as you could ever hope for. It is one of those important fossils that could be the ''missing link'' in dinosaur/bird evolution (it is at the very least a primitive bird feather from the Age of the Dinosaurs). In any case, it is one of those ''special'' fossils that you may never see again.
