Fabulously Detailed Fossil Arthropod from Solnhofen

Formation:  Malm zeta 2 (Solnhofen)
Location:  Eichstatt, Germany
Size: Fossil is almost 5 inches long

Specimen SS168

This is a beautiful, museum quality arthropod fossil. It is a fabulous Eryon arctiformis, extinct lobster fossil, from the Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This specimen was found in the 1960's and was acquired from an OLD German Collection. This fossil is fully complete and amazingly well preserved. The detail on the ventral side is just out-of this world. The distinct claws are intact and very easily seen, and the fan tail is even nicely splayed. The entire carapace is wonderfully centered on the natural-edged plate of lithographic limestone. This is an extremely collectible Solnhofen arthropod that is as detailed as any Solnhofen fossil we've seen.
