This is a very beautiful specimen of Phareodus testis from the Green River Formation. The fossil fish has excellent orange color and contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fish displays incredible detail - the bone structure is very well preserved, and the detail of the fins is excellent. The fish was fossilized with the mouth open, so the large teeth are superbly exhibited. The Phareodus is nicely centered on a rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of this predatory fish from Wyoming.
